Several times a year, on special occasions, we take a mini vacation to one of my favorite beaches in Florida. Lido Key, located in Sarasota, has a little bit for everyone. Great shopping in St. Armand’s Circle, (which also has some great restaurants), they have lots of little shops where you can find unique gifts…love it there! But my favorite part has to be the awesome sunsets every night. I have never seen a more beautiful sight than the sun slowly dropping into the Gulf of Mexico. It is truly spectacular!
During the day (when not shopping in St. Armand’s Circle) the beaches offer an enjoyable way to spend the day. It is an easy beach to stroll on, nice flat surface and very calm waters. I am a chicken when it comes to waves hitting the shore, so this beach is just about perfect for people like me. If you like a more secluded and natural beach experience, you should head to either the northern or southern parts of the Island.
When the day brings some rain instead of sunshine you might want to check out the Mote Marine Laboratory on City Island . It is located on the bay side of New Pass. Across the street from the Mote there are some really great restaurants with lovely views of the water.
